Face Fillers: The Do’s and Dont’s

Face Fillers: The Do’s and Dont’s

As we age, our skin goes through a lot of changes! It will stop retaining moisture, leading to dry and brittle skin, it becomes less elastic and is prone to dark spots. And who can forget those dreaded wrinkles and fine lines that come with it all? Facial fillers add life back to your face by plumping up problem areas on the face to make your skin appear youthful, vibrant, and fresh! From choosing the right injector to what you should know, here is a quick guide to the do’s and don’ts of dermal fillers.

DO Know How the Treatment Works and What Your Options Are

Fillers add mass to areas of the body that have lost it due to aging or other external ailments. The areas that most commonly are treated with fillers include the cheekbone areas and the lips, even sometimes under the eyes. If you see signs of aging or experience any insecurities in these areas, you may benefit from dermal fillers! Dermal fillers act almost as a restorative treatment and they can bring your body back to what it once was.

DON’T Focus on the Budget to Make Your Decision

We get it, budgeting is important and money is a very important aspect when it comes to big changes or treatments, but make sure to do research on finding a reputable aesthetician, like Dr. Peterson, to do your treatments. While filler treatments are a routine procedure, meaning that you will have to come back more than once to get “touchups”. It is important to be treated by a qualified professional. Budgets can be worked with if that is a great concern when looking into dermal fillers and your aesthetician can work with you to achieve your visual goals. Your results will thank you for choosing based on experience and reliability!

DO Put an Icepack on the Injected Area to Reduce Swelling

Most patients after the procedure can apply ice to the injected area after Dermal Filler injections. It is recommended to cover the ice pack with a clean, gentle towel and apply it to the injected area for about 8 minutes at a time. Do not apply ice or cold packs to the skin directly as this is a sure way to irritate the skin and cause discomfort. Also, avoid applying any heavy pressure to the area as this can push the filler to other unwanted areas. Make sure to allow yourself ample time to recover.

DON’T Touch the Treated Area for At Least 8 Hours After the Procedure

Immediately after your filler treatments, the risk of getting an infection in the injected area is at higher risk. We recommend not touching the affected area for at least 8 hours to give the area proper time to heal. Touching the area with your hands or other surfaces increases the chance of an infection. Unfortunately, this means that makeup is not recommended during this time. Take this time to let your skin breathe!
