The Benefits of Prepless Veneers
- Posted on: Jul 6 2020
If you have damaged teeth, including chipped, misshapen or cracked teeth, you may think there’s nothing you can do to restore your beautiful smile. But thankfully, there is a solution. They’re called prepless veneers, and they work similarly to traditional porcelain veneers, with a few added benefits.
Prepless veneers (also known by brand names such as Lumineers) are extremely thin porcelain sheets that cover your existing teeth for a beautiful, healthy-looking smile. They can even create the appearance of straighter teeth.
Prepless veneers can be prepared right in Dr. Peterson’s office, eliminating the need to wait for them to come back from a laboratory. This also means that Dr. Peterson can craft your prepless veneers himself, which means all the decisions regarding the care of your smile are made in-office by a dentist you know and trust – not by a technician at a laboratory that may be located overseas.
Another benefit to prepless veneers is that, because they are thinner, they also require less drilling of the teeth, making for a less invasive overall procedure. Also, because very little tooth needs to be removed, prepless veneer procedures are easier to reverse, so they are more easily removed than traditional porcelain veneers if you ever choose to have them removed. Porcelain veneers are thicker and require much more of your natural tooth to be removed.
Prepless veneers are made with a product called feldspathic porcelain, which is well tolerated by most people. Feldspathic porcelain is a durable product that looks and feels like your natural teeth. It can even be cared for the same way you care for your natural teeth, by brushing twice a day for two minutes at a time and flossing at least once a day.
Prepless veneers also resist staining, meaning you can enjoy your favorite foods and beverages, such as coffee, wine and soda; however, Dr. Peterson recommends you avoid sodas, as they are bad for your natural teeth!
With prepless veneers you can do almost all the same things you can do with natural teeth, but you should be careful not to bite into crunchy foods like apples. We recommend you cut those foods into smaller pieces to protect your veneers.
We recommend prepless veneers for those who have minimal orthodontic issues and for those who don’t need a big difference in tooth color. Prepless veneers can help create a smile you can be proud of.
