Pave your Path to a Straighter Smile with Invisalign

invisalign It used to be that, to have a straighter smile, you had to commit to wearing braces. Those metal fixtures affixed to teeth were not only uber-obvious in the smile, but they also had a knack for catching on cheeks and lips. What are we saying? They still do! Sure, there are cases for conventional orthodontic care. In many cases, though, teens and adults are finding that they can transform the appearance of their smile comfortably and discreetly, with Invisalign.

Invisalign is a unique system that is designed to straighten teeth without brackets and wires. This system is more than clear braces; it is entirely reliant on gentle, continual pressure from aligners to move teeth. Upon first glance, this may seem an unlikely path to success; but there is a proven track record to show that Invisalign is completely viable as an alternative to braces for a large percentage of people.

How Invisalign Moves Teeth
The basic premise of Invisalign is the same as standard orthodontia: to release teeth from the hold of the periodontal ligament. Once they are somewhat loosened, they can be encouraged into better alignment. The idea is similar to braces, but the mechanism is far different. Rather than having to wear metal fixtures on your teeth for many months, the Invisalign system requires you to wear clear, plastic aligners.

Invisalign aligners are designed from images of your dentition, the entire upper and lower arches. These images are processed by leading-edge software and made into an animation that guides the fabrication of individual aligners. A set of aligner trays is worn for a two-week period. After that, a new set is worn. With each set, teeth are progressed into the desired positioning. Because aligners are doing the work that is typically done by brackets and arch wires, there is no need for periodic adjustments. Instead, our patients visit us every six weeks or so, just to give us a chance to check up on their progress.
