Dental Crowns

Before and After Dental Crown and Dental Bridges Even though we try very hard to avoid crowning a tooth, there are times when they are necessary. Either a tooth that is severely damaged, a crown already exists on a tooth, or a tooth needs to be replaced with a bridge. Recent advances in the strength of our porcelain materials have opened up many options for non-metal alternatives to crowns and bridges.

A tooth crown is a cap that covers your tooth. The dental crown restores your tooth's natural size and shape, while improving your tooth's appearance and functions. Crowns should look and feel perfectly natural and usually last for many years.

Crowns are used when your tooth is damaged and a regular filling isn't strong enough. The tooth crown can hold your cracked tooth together, as well as prevent the crack from getting worse.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is used to replace an entire tooth or multiple teeth. If an entire tooth is missing and is left unfilled, the surrounding teeth may begin to drift out of position. If this is the case, a bridge can be used to replace your missing tooth or teeth.

Bridges are cemented or bonded into place and can only be removed by a dentist. You maintain a bridge in the same manner as your natural teeth, by regular flossing, brushing, and visiting your dentist, however, bridges do need special care.
